BEER FACT #16
Stout! You love it or you hate it.

Porter beer was the precursor to stout. Porters were brewed for the English working class as a strong, dark ale brewed with roasted malts, barley and an excess of hops. Porters had variable AVBs and the strongest of these were called “strong” or “stout”. The most popular stout is Guinness, which is brewed in Ireland by the St. James Gate Brewery. Guinness is a “dry” stout with no sugars. Whereas many other breweries commonly brew sweet stouts, using peanut butter, chocolate, oatmeal or milk. Though many beer drinkers can agree on a lager, stout is either loved or hated.
