Knickerbocker Beer?
You may have never heard of it, but, astonishingly, Knickerbocker Beer was the best-selling beer in America during the early 1900s. Started in 1867 as a small brewery in the woods, German immigrant, Jacob Ruppert, grew the Knickerbocker brewery to a 2 million barrel facility that consisted of 35 building between 90th and 94th Street in Manhattan. Ruppet's success allowed him to become owner of the NY Yankees and instrumental in bring Babe Ruth to town. But, like many heydey breweries from the turn of the century, Knickerbocker Brewery produced its final beer in 1965.
